What you'll be doing
The purpose of the SCHN Patient Data Steward role is to be responsible for the implementation, management and education related to the data quality and governance of the Hospital Patient Data Collection (which is inclusive of Admitted Patient, Emergency, Non-Admitted Services) and other datasets at SCHN.

The position is required to provide support to the SCHN Data Integrity Manager and oversee the day-to-day management of matters related to these Data Collections, as well as providing advice to SCHN HIU Manager, Executive Unit, and other services within SCHN as required. This role is crucial to ensure the safety of patient care, and that patient data is fit for purpose for costing, reporting, and funding of health services.
In this role, the SCHN Patient Data Steward will establish and implement processes necessary to comply with NSW Ministry of Health regulations and other data quality standards set by appropriate working groups and stakeholders. This involves attending state-wide and local working group meetings as an SCHN representative and acting upon and disseminating information as required within the Network.

The SCHN Patient Data Steward will also review data errors to determine the root cause of errors, and use these findings to promote, educate and train staff on data quality initiatives and processes to prevent or reduce errors from recurring. The role also requires collaboration with staff whose roles relate to patient data quality, as well as liaison and collaboration with key stakeholders who manage related data streams and databases.
  • Experience working with hospital patient management systems (either Cerner Patient Management or iPM – experience with both will be considered favourably) with a high-level understanding of how data flows from hospitals to NSW Health
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability and attention to detail – particularly with regards to data quality
  • Excellent and demonstrable written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, train and motivate staff
  • Exceptional time management and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and re-prioritise tasks effectively
  • Excellent computer skills, including using Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint. Knowledge of SQL or Access is desirable
